Report: White Mother Arrested For Killing Her Black Husband While Their Children Were At Home

Just weeks after celebrating her seven-year anniversary with her husband, a Texas woman was arrested for gunning him down at home with their 2-year-old and 6-year-old children present.

33-year-old Morgan Leigh Sims was charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old Daray Vontrell Sims.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that to arrest affidavits show that Morgan told a Collin County Sheriff’s Office deputy her husband, Daray, was abusive and she shot him in self-defense.

“When asked what happened, Sims stated that she had ‘had been abused, which caused me to defend myself”.

Collin County sheriff's deputies were called about a disturbance at the pair’s home on Friday evening. The person who rang up the police said his sister and her husband were "arguing and fighting."

Minutes later, Morgan’s mother called 911, saying that her daughter had just shot her husband.

Daray, who used to play football at Abilene Christian University, was discovered on the bathroom floor, covered in “copious amounts of blood,” the affidavit reveals.

After Morgan was taken into custody, she told the deputy she had been abused by her husband. However, she declined to say anything further and asked for an attorney, it seems.

A semiautomatic pistol with a magazine and a live round in the chamber was found during a search of Sims’ Range Rover. It’s unclear if the Walther P22 was the weapon used in the shooting, a sheriff’s spokesman told the Dallas Morning News.

Deputies also found $9,560 in cash inside the vehicle, pills believed to be Valium and Xanax, as well as the family’s passports.

They also recovered two spent .22 cartridge casings, one live .22 cartridge, an empty container of disinfecting wipes and other used cleaning supplies at the home, court records explain.

Dallas County court records states that Daray Sims was arrested in 2014 on suspicion of assault-family violence in DeSoto, where a grand jury ultimately declined to indict him.

She bout to get off @nydailynews “Morgan Leigh Sims, 33, made the claim about her husband, Daray Vontrell Sims, to a Collin County Sheriff’s Office deputy after authorities were called on Friday to the couple’s home in McKinney, according to search warrants and affidavits obtained by the Dallas Morning News. “When asked what happened, Sims stated that she had ‘had been abused, which caused me to defend myself,” according to the affidavit.”

Morgan Sims was arrested in April 2010 on a charge of criminal mischief, after allegedly scratching the paint on four cars with a rock. She pleaded no contest and was sentenced to one year of deferred adjudication supervision.

Sims remains held at the Collin County Detention Center, in lieu of $500,000 bail.
