Disturbing Video Shows Deputies Tasing A Man Who's Already Restrained

In a disturbing video released today, Georgia deputy sheriffs are shown tasing a man who's already been restrained. He died after the video was taken. 22-year-old Matthew Ajibade is shown being tased in the groin while he was restrained in an isolation cell. The video was shown as evidence in court, as two Georgia deputies are being tried for involuntary manslaughter. The coroner ruled his death a homicide.

He was taken into custody after an apparent bipolar episode that took place on New Year's Day, "despite his family’s pleas to have him transported to a health facility," NBC reports. The video was shown in court Friday morning during the involuntary manslaughter trial for the two officers and a health-care worker. Nine deputies who were on duty were fired in May, including the two who are on trial.

In a darkly ironic twist, Mark O'Mara, who successfully defended George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin, is representing the Ajibade family, which is weighing a civil suit. Mara called the video "disgusting and vile." I guess it's good that he's on the right side of the law this time.

"It is nothing less than torture," said O'Mara. "It's sadism."
