Report: Taraji P. Henson Not Renewing Contract With "Empire" & Giving The Deuces To The TV Series

The popular show "Empire" is headed back to the small screen on September 27 for their fourth season.

However, a new report is suggesting Taraji P. Henson isn't certain she will renew her contract. Is she tired of playing Cookie Lyon?

Henson's contract for the show ends this year, and FOX is hoping to have her sign on for multiple seasons.

"Taraji is the franchise, and she’s milking it big time," a source stated. "One minute she’s telling them she wants it go to continue for the foreseeable future, the next she’s changed her mind and talking about the next step of her career elsewhere, or needing a break for her personal life."

The Golden Globe winning star's character, Cookie, is a fan favorite.

However, Taraji has previously said she planned to leave "Empire" after season four. "Everybody is bracing for the fact that once she is tired of all this, the whole universe of the series is going to wrap up, and they resent her for it," the source added. "It’s a big reason why she is treated like royalty on the set and everybody is walking on eggshells around her.”

Henson previously stated that she didn't intend to play the role of Cookie for too long. The actress said, "I could not do this forever. No. Cookie wears me out!"

Taraji said of her character, "She is emotionally all over the place. Those writers, they just keep pushing my emotions with every episode. By the 18th episode [of each season], I’m dead. I got to get far away. I don’t wear animal print. I cut my hair into a bob. I don’t wear a weave because I’ve got to get as far away from Cookie as possible."

Henson adds that she loves the role, but she thinks it’s best to go out on top.

"I learned this from the women of Sex and the City— you’ve got to know when to go out. You don’t want to overstay your welcome. You want to go out on a high. You want to be remembered as the number one show on network. I’m going to loose my passion, I know me. And Cookie is enough. I can’t do that for [too] long."
