'Black Panther' Director Ryan Coogler Reveals An Idea For A Spin-Off That Has Social Media In Shambles

We want only great things for Ryan Coogler.

Five months in and Ryan Coogler is already one of this year’s top Black heroes. Understandably; his work is incredible.

The Black Panther director has been receiving compliments left and right ever since his Marvel comic-book movie hit theaters.

With a monstrous debut during President's Day weekend with $242.1 million made at the box office, Black Panther's success gave Coogler the record of having the biggest opening weekend for a film by a black director, dethroning F. Gary Gray. Coogler more than doubled Gray's 2017 film, The Fate of the Furious, which pulled in $98 million during its opening weekend.

The film with a nearly all-black cast powerfully exposed the lie of the stubborn Hollywood  that “black films don’t travel”, with its  success in and markets .

Fast forward to today and he is reflecting upon that project. He took a two-hour talk at the Cannes Film Festival and dropped a large potential bombshell.

When asked by moderator and critic Elvis Mitchell whether the women of Black Panther were as important as the men. Ryan immediately said, (per Variety), “I think you could argue they are more important.”

“There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women,” he continued.

He was then asked by Mitchell whether he would potentially be open to a female spinoff of his film. Good news….

“Oh man,” Ryan replied. “That would be amazing if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic-book version.”

Twitter was excited! Take a look at a few of the responses if you have any doubt.

"If we crowning @letitiawright for the female Black Panther then we’re gona break more box office records. 👀,” one fan quipped.

"Ryan Coogler said he would do a Female spin-off of Black Panther if he’s allowed, do you know how amazing that would be?," another pondered.

Thoughts? We are crossing our fingers that this one comes to fruition.

Maybe this will lead to more rumored on-set romances between the cast?

Back in March, our hearts were shattered (okay, mildly bruised) when we learned the truth about Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o’s flirty online exchanges; it was all fun and games.

The very talented actor tweeted, "Aight y’all know wassup [expletive] 🤦🏾♂️ playing #safeword with @SteeloBrim who doesn’t care about life and took the L hahaa."

Lupita continues to stay mum on her private life and relationships, for the record. She previously told Vogue, "You can ask, but you definitely won’t get an answer. There have been rumors and rumors and rumors about my love life. That’s the one area that I really like to hold close to my heart."
