21 Savage Arrested By ICE & Facing Deportation, Says He's In The USA Illegally

Ok. Um. Wow. Where do we even begin?

21 Savage was reportedly arrested by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the wee hours of Sunday, February 3rd.

In what may end up being the biggest plot twist of 2019, ICE believes the rapper, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, is actually a British Citizen and not from Atlanta, Georgia.

He was taken into custody in a “targeted operation” in metro Atlanta, ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta reporter Mark Winne who is following the case and providing breaking updates, says 21 Savage entered the United States legally at the age of 12-years-old in 2005.

His VISA reportedly expired in July 2006, thus making his presence in this country illegal for over 12 1/2 years now.

While his mother is of Dominican descent, it’s unclear if he was actually born in the United Kingdom or a United Kingdom territory.

Some reports say he hails from the Caribbean island of Dominica.

ICE officials shared a statement announcing they have detained 21 Savage and the emcee possibly be deported out of the country.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA “21 Savage” during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S.

Mr. Abraham-Joseph initially entered the U.S. legally in July 2005, but subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa and he became unlawfully present in the U.S. when his visa expired in July 2006. In addition to being in violation of federal immigration law, Mr. Abraham-Joseph was convicted on felony drug charges in October 2014 in Fulton County, Georgia.”

Reportedly, 21 Savage has been placed in “removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts.”

His attorney, Dina LaPolt told TMZ: "We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding. Mr. Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country -- especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy."

The 26-year-old has always claimed to be from Atlanta, Georgia.  Just last fall, he gave free school supplies to more than 2,500 DeKalb County students as part of his Leading By Example Foundation.

21 Savage was arrested and later convicted on felony drug charges in Fulton County, Georgia in 2014, prompting many on the internet to question why he wasn't arrested by ICE then.

21 Savage released his sophomore album, I am > I was, in December and is nominated for two Grammy awards this year.

Are you surprised to learn that 21 Savage is reportedly not from Atlanta?
