Dallas Mother Arrested After Subjecting Healthy Son To 323 Hospital Visits & 13 Major Surgeries To Treat Cancer He Never Had

A Dallas, Texas woman was arrested for felony injury to a child after she confessed that she convinced doctors her son was severely ill, leading to numerous hospital visits and surgeries.

Kaylene Bowen, 34, took her son Christopher, now eight, to the hospital 323 times since he was born. She told doctors her son had a milk allergy and needed a lung transplant due to the severe side effects. She also claimed Christopher had "terminal cancer."

The child also had 13 major surgeries for the alleged ailments, according to prosecutors. Bowen even started donation pages to help with the child's medical treatments and operations.

Doctors finally became suspicious a couple of years ago and contacted Child Protective Services.

Bowen told doctors during office visits that her son would violently 'throw up' every time he drank milk, Christopher's father, Ryan Crawford revealed.  "She started explaining to the judge that the doctors stated my son would never walk", Crawford stated. "And then she stated that he had problems continuing to eat and that he's going to need a feeding tube."

Crawford, who is now separated from his wife, began dating Bowen in 2009 and she became pregnant. He shared, "I was at a club and she seemed like a nice woman. She was pleasant, pretty. She just caught my eye."

He believes Bowen is the one that is sick, stating he believes she suffers from Munchhausen by Proxy, or MSBP. This is a mental condition where a caregiver or parent makes up or causes an illness or injury in a person under his or her care, which is usually a child.

Crawford shared that the issues escalated to a point Bowen said their son was dying. Crawford said, "I was horrified because from what I knew, my son was fine. He just needed -- not even extra care -- he was fine."

Christopher's father feels he is to blame in part for not putting a stop to the doctor visits. He said, "Just so many surgeries that are just unbelievable. He could have died ... only God saved him."

Bowen has been charged with injury to a child and was jailed on $150,000 bond. The child and his two siblings were removed from the home by child welfare officials last month.
