'Insecure' Dropped A Major Surprise On Us, And the Internet Is Losing Its Mind

Well, people are going to go wild over this one…

Also, SPOILER ALERT. So, stop reading if you don’t want to know what’s happening on Insecure.

To the dismay and shock of the #LawrenceHive, the show's creator, Issa Rae, and its showrunner, Prentice Penny, shared prior to the current season's premiere that Jay Ellis' character will not be a focal point of the series any longer. However, Sunday night's episode skewed that sentiment a bit as the familiar face made his way back into the narrative.

Concluding the exceptionally clever #BeyChella-themed episode was a very unexpected scene, which showed Issa Dee running into her ex-boyfriend Lawrence while on an errand run at 7-Eleven.

The brief episode cliffhanger had fans of the show, especially the #LawrenceHive losing their minds as it was obvious Issa pulled a fast one on all of us.

Wow. Jay Ellis, himself, hopped over to Twitter to respond to the wild reaction.

Anyway, fans are rejoicing and losing their collective minds.

The #LawrenceHive didn’t take Jay Ellis‘ reported absence from Season 3 well and as they filed a petition, which aimed to convince HBO to step in and bring the character back.

The petition reached 10,000 signatures in its first night as it spread like wildfire on social media, especially with the group behind it taking out an ad on Facebook.

When Issa came across the pleas for signatures online gave an interesting response as she tweeted, "Wow. A sponsored post, though? Like... money was spent?".

Issa already made her case for the decision to do away with Lawrence during the third annual Insecure Fest in Los Angeles, explaining, "No, I don't care! [...] We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she's moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it's OK! You gotta explore life without Lawrence."

"At the end of the day, we're always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic," Prentice then added. "We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, 'OK, well what is he doing?' Well, he's not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that... We just said, 'Well, if he's not around, he's not around.' Let's just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let's be true to that. When you breakup and you have closure."

“Now the secret is you gotta coordinate. Most people don’t coordinate. See you gotta coooordinate.” - John Whiterspoon Boomerang ‘92 #GMAstride
"I'm a little bit out of it," Jay also claimed at one point. "I'm not really... They've been filming for the last six or seven weeks or something like that."

They shootin'. Season 3. #InsecureHBO
"I don't know. I honestly, truly don't know," he then said. "I might get a call tomorrow and they gonna be like, 'Ay, can you come do this?' And I'll be like, 'Yeah, I'll be there.'"

Are you glad that Lawrence might be back, for real?
