Jennifer Hudson Defends 8 Year Engagement to David Otunga
Jennifer Hudson has been engaged to retired WWE wrestler David Otunga for close to nine years and fans have always been curious why they had not married yet.
Hudson sat down with "Loose Women" and explained her reasons for the delay.
Jennifer, who is promoting "The Voice UK" where she will be a judge, chatted with the panel about her experience on the show, her major weight loss, and her long engagement.
The 35-year-old singer explained, "I mean, I feel like everything is about timing and our timing … He ain’t going nowhere. You see he’s still there. He can wait."
Jennifer and David got engaged on Sept. 12, 2008 on her 27th birthday. The couple have a 7-year-old son together, David Otunga Jr.
Hudson told the women that if her son had his way that the wedding would have already happened. She said, "Everyone has married us off anyway and we’re still a family, but there’s no difference."
One person asked if Hudson was worried the relationship would sour after getting married. Hudson explained her thoughts on marriage, saying, "I’m a believer [in] you do well and better with what you want to do vs. what you have to do. It’s like, I’m here because I want to be, not because I have to be. As soon as we have to do something, we don’t want to do it no more."
Of course, this isn't the first time the singer has been asked about her long engagement to Otunga. Jennifer addressed the subject when she appeared on "The Wendy Williams Show" in 2014.
Hudson told Williams, "The ring is still there and we will get married one day. But again, my thing is, once I get married, I don’t believe in divorce. And so, when I get married, its for good. We want to be completely sure we’re together, we’re happy."
