Jada Pinkett-Smith Explains Why She Allowed Son Jaden To Move Out At Age 15 — Video

Watching Jada's new show is like being a fly on the wall in the Smith family home.

Jada Pinkett-Smith has revealed her son, Jaden, made the decision to leave home at the age of 15-years-old, which the actress admits devastated her.

Jada, 46, discussed the incident with her now 19-year-old son, daughter Willow, and Pinkett-Smith's mother on the Facebook talk show, "Red Table Talk."

Adrienne Banfield-Jones (Jada's mother), made it clear she wasn't a fan of Jada and Will Smith's parenting. She felt they gave their children too much freedom in making their own decisions.

Jada called Jaden's decision "one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life."

However, she said she learned "that every child needs something different."

Jada stated, "At 15 years old, Jaden, and I remember this day specifically, it's probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life. You got to a point where you told me straight up, you were like, 'Mom, I have to leave here to live my life.'"

Pinkett Smith said, "I remember thinking to myself, as devastated as I was, I was like, 'He's right.' The time is now. He's 15. It's time for him to leave the house.'"

Jada insisted that she was already aware that Jaden would likely leave the home at a young age.

She explained, "I told Will, 'We'd be lucky to keep will in the house till he's 16 because he's so mature.' He was making films. He really could manage his own life.'"

Jaden said moving out on his own made him appreciate his family more. He said, "It just makes you appreciate being at home, being with your parents, spending quality time with your family. You get out into the world and you just understand things."

Jada and Will’s parenting style has often been discussed. Many believed their approach to raising their son and daughter allowed them too much freedom at a young age.

In 2016, Will admitted that their hands-off approach may have been a mistake.

Will told BBC Radio 1Xtra, "I think we may have gone too far. The proud father had nothing but nice things to say about his son, who shocked fans when he joined the Louis Vuitton womenswear campaign wearing a skirt.

Will explained, "Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything. So as a parent, it’s scary, it’s really terrifying — but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think."

Yep definitely my seed
