Issa Rae Reacts To The Lawrence Hive Petition To Bring His Character Back To ‘Insecure’

Members of the #LawrenceHive are still mopping up their tears over confirmation that Lawrence will not be appearing in season three of Insecure.

It’s really no question as to why Lawrence quickly became a fan favorite on “Insecure.”

Many admitted they related to him being cheated on and they were hoping he would stick around the storyline.

But...Issa and Lawrence are no longer together and it was a pretty clear wrap-up on the second season finale, right?

"I don't know if there is a relationship," actor Jay Ellis (who played Lawrence) previously noted, of his character and Issa's. "There was closure at the end. There was like, full closure."

The #LawrenceHive though is not taking Jay Ellis‘ absence from Season 3 well and and now there is a petition going around, which aims to convince HBO to step in and bring the character back?

The petition has reached nearly 10,000 signatures so far. It has spread like wildfire on social media, especially with the group taking out an ad on Facebook.

Well, Issa came across the pleas for signatures online and had an interesting response, tweeting, "Wow. A sponsored post, though? Like... money was spent?".

Issa already made her case for the decision to do away with Lawrence during the third annual Insecure Fest in Los Angeles, explaining, "No, I don't care! [...] We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she's moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it's OK! You gotta explore life without Lawrence."

"At the end of the day, we're always trying to tell stories that are true and authentic," showrunner Prentice Penny also shared. "We were in the writers room and we were initially talking about, 'OK, well what is he doing?' Well, he's not in her life right now. It was hard to make stories around that... We just said, 'Well, if he's not around, he's not around.' Let's just deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let's be true to that. When you breakup and you have closure."

Jay Ellis made hearts weep when he posted a snap of him Photoshopped alongside the rest of the cast the other day.

Heard I missed something last weekend... fixed it.

"Heard I missed something last weekend... fixed it," he captioned the doctored photo.

Not that you need a reminder, but season three of Insecure premieres on Sunday, August 12, on HBO.

Anyway, you going to sign it? Or are you happy that we will not be seeing more of Lawrence?
