Ex-Con Charged With Murder After Allegedly Beating His Girlfriend’s 3-Year-Old Daughter To Death

Run far, far away if you don’t want to be plunged into the depths of a depressed state.

A 32-year-old man is set to face a judge on charges he allegedly murdered his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter inside of their Queens apartment.

The medical examiner ruled Bella Edwards died of blunt force trauma to her stomach. Her body showed signs of trauma consistent with abuse, a police source told PIX11. The insider also said that she was covered in bruises, had new injuries and several old injuries that were healing and there were signs of sexual abuse.

Mark Jenkins is charged with second-degree depraved murder and first-degree depraved assault, after Bella was found unconscious and unresponsive.

Officers were called about 6 PM on Monday to an apartment on Beach 105th Street near Shore Front Parkway, where they discovered Jenkins performing CPR on the child. Authorities says Jenkins was the only adult with Edwards and her 3-month-old brother in the apartment for eight hours.

(Jenkins is the father of the 3-month-old boy, who has been removed from the home for the time being — AND HOPEFULLY FOREVER—and is considered by family to be Bella’s stepfather.)

Investigators believe Bella was forced to endure ongoing abuse at the hands of Mark Jenkins. How horrific!

Jenkins, an ex-con who served prison time for shooting a man in the Bronx in 2004 and for an assault case in 2002, was living with Edwards, her baby brother and their mother in a Rockaway Park apartment, police said.

Another horrific story is showing up all over the place this week.

A 19-year-old Michigan man named Rico Riggs and his 23-year-old girlfriend Temara Shaniece Reed have been charged in connection with the death of the woman's 5-month-old son, Jordan Algee, Jr.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced last Thursday that Rico has been charged with murder, first degree child abuse, tampering with evidence and intimidating witnesses in the murder of the baby. Temara was charged with tampering with evidence, lying to a police officer conducting a violent crime investigation, being an accessory after the fact to a felony and third-degree child abuse.

Detective Brett Orvis —who testified in court against Riggs —recalled, "He stated, 'I lost control, spazzed out and kicked the baby.'"

On March 25th, Rico flew into a jealous rage, after he discovered Temara had been texting ex-boyfriends and having them inside the home when he wasn't home.

Detective Orvis also said, "He had found out that they were coming over when he wasn’t there. He didn’t know their names. He said he found out by going through her phone."

"He got upset and went upstairs angry. That’s when he spazzed out and kicked the covers, losing control. Jordan was laying in the blankets that he kicked. As soon as he kicked the covers Jordan immediately began crying."
