Beyonce presented Colin Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award on Tuesday night, looking simply stunning at the award's event.

Beyonce, who was a surprise presenter at the ceremony, stated she was "proud and humbled" the present the award to Kaepernick for his courage to open the important conversation about race in the United States.

The Grammy winning singer stated, "Thank you, Colin Kaepernick. Thank you for your selfless heart. And your conviction. Thank you for your personal sacrifice. Colin took action with no fear of consequences or repercussions, only hope to change the world for the better."

Beyonce, who looked gorgeous in a black and silver mini dress, had not been scheduled to appear and surprised the audience.

Beyonce stated that Kaepernick's message is focused on social injustice for historically disenfranchised people. She said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm so proud and humbled to present the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award to Colin Kaepernick."

Kaepernick took to the stage and received a standing ovation from the crowd. He said, "I accept this award not for myself, but on behalf of the people. Because if it was not for my love of the people, I would not have protested. And if it was not for the support of the people, I would not be on this stage today."

He goes on to state, "With or without the NFL's platform, I will continue to work for the people, because my platform is the people."

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who received the same award last year, paid tribute to Kaepernick in a video clip.

Abdul-Jabbar stated, "He fully embraced the risk to his career in order to remind Americans of the systemic racism that was denying African Americans their opportunities to equal education, jobs, health and even their lives."

Kaepernick started kneeling during the national anthem last season to protest racial inequality and police brutality. His demonstration began a wave of protests by NFL players.

Colin left the San Francisco 49ers in March and has not yet been signed by another team. Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL in October, claiming that he has not been signed due to his protests.

Kaepernick discussed Ali's fight for social injustice earlier this week, saying the boxing legend "mentored me without ever meeting me."

Colin said, "The footprints he leaves are large and his life is and has been a multi-textured tapestry that is rich in love, wisdom, life lessons and human kindness. I can only hope that I'm taking steps toward walking on the footsteps that he has left behind for the world to follow."

The awards show will be broadcast Friday night on NBC Sports Network.
