The 3rd Installment Of The 'Bad Boys' Franchise Is Confirmed With New Name, Official Release Date & Details On Movie Plot

It’s been talked about for so long that we gave up on it but now we can officially get excited now!

The third installment of the “Bad Boys” movie franchise has gone through some trouble but Sony Pictures Entertainment has just announced a release date for the highly-anticipated Will Smith and Martin Lawrence film, "Bad Boys for Life."

The action comedy directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah will reunite Smith and Lawrence with Jerry Bruckheimer for the third installment of the franchise, fifteen years later.

"Bad Boys For Life" will be released on Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend on Jan. 17, 2020.

The original "Bad Boys" which catapulted Smith's career, came out in April 1995. The second film in the franchise was released in July of 2003.

Sony has high hopes with the release of the latest installment, especially after the first two movies grossed $314.7M worldwide.

"Bad Boys for Life" was originally planned for 2017 before being pushed back to 2018. There came a point where it didn't appear the movie would be happening at all!

Last August, the movie was dropped from Sony's release calendar, with Lawrence even stating, "I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out."

Martin said, ""Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen...There can’t be a 'Bad Boys 4' if there hasn’t even been a 'Bad Boys 3.' The whole 'Bad Boys' — there’s no 'Bad Boys' going on. There’s no 'Bad Boys.'"

Outside of Will Smith's schedule, other reasons "Bad Boys 3" reportedly stalled out at that time included script issues and the loss of director Joe Carnahan.

The third film in the franchise, which is slated to begin filming in August, will reportedly have Smith and Lawrence taking on an Albanian mercenary.

Lawrence’s character, Marcus Burnett, will be working as a private investigator after having a falling out with Smith’s character, Mike Lowery.

Will's character is a bachelor going through a midlife crisis, who is going through a midlife crisis. In addition he is having to deal with a cocky partner that he doesn't mesh well with. However, Burnett returns and they sort things out.

Lowery and Burnett are brought together again after an Albanian mercenary puts a price on the heads of Lowery and Burnett for the death of his brother.

The pair have to join forces in an effort to take the bad guy down. The film's budget is set at over $100 million and is expected to feature lots of car chases and explosions.

In addition, it was announced this Fall that a spinoff television series based on the original 1995 "Bad Boys" film will hit the small screen. "Being Mary Jane" star, Gabrielle Union, and Jessica Alba have joined on to the project.
