Report: Woman Accused Of Murdering Pregnant Friend On Wedding Day To Steal Unborn Baby From Her Womb — Video

The trial for Ashleigh Wade, who has been charged with cutting out the unborn child of a friend of hers and claiming it as her own, began on Monday.

Wade reportedly lured Angelikque Sutton, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time, to her apartment by pretending she had a baby gift for her.

Sutton had been on the way to the courthouse to get married in November of 2015.

District Attorney Meredith Holtzman told a jury that Ashleigh "stabbed and slashed" Angelikque repeatedly in the face and neck. Sutton's larynx was cut and she was unable to even scream for help.

Holtzman said, "All of those injuries in the first attack took place from the neck up. The defendant took great care to avoid injuring Ms. Sutton's abdomen."

Ashleigh then took a kitchen paring knife and sliced Angelikque's abdomen open, cutting out her entire uterus. She then cut the uterus open and took the baby girl, Jenasis, out. She discarded Sutton's uterus on the bathroom floor.

Wade had claimed she was pregnant to friends, family, and on Facebook posts. She even kept purchased formula, diapers, and baby shoes.

The prosecutor stated in Monday's trial, "She had baby clothes, baby shoes, diapers, formula, a crib, everything that an expectant mother would need, except a baby. She didn’t have a baby. For that she needed Angelikque Sutton."

Police arrived at the crime scene around 30 minutes after the killing. Surveillance video showed Wade’s boyfriend holding the baby girl, believing the child was his.

Wade admitted to police that she murdered Sutton, but insisted the baby was hers. Police found the newborn wrapped in a coat on top of a parked car near Wade’s Monticello Ave. home.

The victim's child survived and is now 2 years old.

The attorney for Wade stated, "many of the facts are not in dispute. There could have been something that went horribly wrong in Ashleigh Wade's own mind."

The trial is expected to last about two weeks. Wade is now charged with second degree murder and manslaughter. She is currently in the psych ward at Elmhurst Hospital.

If found guilty, Wade could get a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
